C.R. England Tests Trailer Side Skirts, Increasing Fuel Efficiency by 3.6%

SALT LAKE CITY, June 1 /PRNewswire/ — C.R. England, a global transportation provider, is testing 100 side skirts for increased trailer aerodynamics. As a SmartWay(SM) Transport Carrier Partner, C.R. England is always striving to become more sustainable. The company performs continuous testing on new technologies. A testing department experiments with both controlled and field tests to determine if the side skirts perform favorably. The tests initially yielded a 3.6% fuel savings when using this technology. Field tests are currently being performed; if the tests yield positive results, the company will save almost 3 million gallons of fuel yearly.

“Our overall desire is to operate the most efficient vehicles on the road,” says Corey England, Executive Vice President, Operations Support. “This strategy protects our environment as well as ensures our future profitability.”

Fight Depression On The Road

When you are an over the road truck driver you certainly can spend a lot of time alone. Some polls have showed that the solitary lifestyle can be a contributor. So we came up with a quick list of ways to beat back the depression monster.

One way to start is with healthy eating choices.
For starters, try to substitute one junk food item with one healthy item. A good example of this could be, nuts instead of candy. After a while, try substituting more foods more often.

Another is with a pet.
Not all carriers allow pets on board. If you work for a carrier that allows it, and you feel like you could give a pet the necessary attention it will need, then pets are a great way to reduce stress levels. The pet will most likely require some walking so you will get exercise too!

Let a few things go each day.
This one is absolutely fantastic. Not only can it help with depression, it can even begin to relax you a little. Start by letting something easy go. Maybe it can be when another truck driver cuts you off at the fuel pump. Next time, just let it go. Not for their benefit but for yours. You will find a calmer healthier you the more times you can let things go.

Reach out at and help someone.
Top psychologists sometimes recommend volunteer work to their patients. On the job its hard to volunteer but you can certainly lend someone a hand. Some times without them even knowing. For example, try slowing down just a little to let a car into your lane. Maybe open a door for the next person coming out of the convenience store.

Communicate with family and friends
This one is probably the hardest but it will certainly fight the depression bug. Your sleep schedule can differ from that of your friends and family so communicating can sometimes be difficult.  After you finish that next delivery, make an appointment with yourself to call some friends and family. Leave them a message if they have an answering machine. Also, you could write a letter if your having trouble sleeping. Another idea is Postcards. Even our Truck Driving School Students get to see some pretty amazing places.
