I was reading a great story on Cleveland.com and I came across a great discussion about the current economic climate that shared a few stories about former white collar business people who have gone to truck driving schools across the country.

The article had a story of a man who was formerly employed by Bear Sterns. He was laid off shortly after the investment bank failed. Instead of finding another office job he decided to go to truck driving school and pursue truck driving jobs as a new career. The Associated Press article that ran today said that the man decided to get training after sending out more than 35 resumes and didn’t have any employment opportunities pan out.

There is no doubt the economy has beat down a little and trucking is no exception, but the jobs truck drivers do are always in high demand. Many polls often show that truck jobs are hard positions to fill. This can make the trucking industry an easy choice for many who have lost their jobs from layoffs and cost cutting initiatives.

The article also discussed a gentleman named Allan Cohen who after loosing his job as a publisher decided to choose truck driving as his next career. Cohen says he chose trucking because he believes the trucking industry is recession-proof. Cohen also believes that for him, driving will be therapeutic.

Whether your white collar or blue CR England may have the truck driving jobs that you may be looking for.

The complete Cleveland.com article can be found at http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2009/07/recession_presses_white_collar.html

This is another sad story about truck driving schools that have been in the news recently.
Today theProvince.com ran an article with more allegations regarding the now closed truck driving school in Surrey. This most recent article ads a little humor to the situation.

Apparently the owner who was creating fake documents for students thought he was pretty bright. In order to make the documents look a little more authentic, he recommended his students splash a little mustard on the documents. This was to give them an authentic Indian look?

I read a comment that said “I don’t relish … using mustard to ketch up .”
Obviously a very clever comment that definably sums up the entire situation. You can link to today’s article at the bottom of this post.

Well, I can assure you this. Here at CR England, our truck driving schools are by the book. No sticky situations at our schools. The only condiments here are located just above the napkins and left of the hot dog machine!

Here is theprovince.com article written by John Coleburn http://www.theprovince.com/news/Surrey+truck+scammer+used+mustard+give+fakes+Indian+look/1706636/story.html

Just read a horrible story on Surrey Leader.com. They ran an article about a a truckdrivingschools called South West Driving Academy Ltd. The article states that the owner has just been sentenced to serve 15 months under house arrest for supplying letters to students that were fake. The letters helped the students to qualify to drive large trucks in B.C.

We wrote an article not to long ago that discussed why is so important to choose and decide carefully when picking truck driving schools. This just made me realize we needed to revisit that article often for the new comers to the trucking industry. Here is a link to that old article: truckdrivingschoolsblog truckdrivingschools

Here is a quote from the authorities mentioned in this article “A forensic test of several letters supposedly from authorities in the
Punjab showed that many were printed on a type of paper that is only
sold in North America, and many from different states had identical
logos and signatures.

As well, authorities in one
Punjab city also confirmed to the B.C. investigators that six of the
letters purporting to be from their office were all fakes.”

This is was a serious issue. The complete article written by Dan Ferguson of the Surrey North Delta Leader can be found at http://www.bclocalnews.com/surrey_area/surreyleader/breaking_news/48192277.html
